Denis Manturov Held A Meeting On The Prospects For The Development Of The Russian Nuclear Icebreaking Fleet

 On February 12, 2018, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturovheld a meeting on the current status of the construction of nuclear icebreakers and prospects for the development of the Russian icebreaking fleet as a whole.

Alexey Likhachev, General Director of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, Alexei Rakhmanov, President of JSC OSK, Alexey Kadilov, General Director of Atomflot, and Vyacheslav Ruksha, General Director of Atomflot, took part in the meeting.

The central topic of discussion was the timely completion of the construction of universal nuclear icebreakers project 22220, built at the production facilities of JSC "Baltic Plant."

Currently, JSC Baltiysky Zavod (part of United Shipbuilding Corporation JSC) is building 3 icebreakers of project 22220. The completion of their construction is planned for 2019, 2020 and 2021 respectively. It was noted that thanks to the implementation of these projects, the shipbuilding industry as a whole restored previously lost competencies, mastered new technologies, and also ensured the attraction of qualified personnel to the production.

The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov instructed JSC "Plant" Kirov-energomash "to ensure strict observance of the terms of production and delivery of steam turbine units for all three icebreakers.

Following the meeting, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia noted that the construction of the nuclear icebreaker fleet will not only allow the domestic industry to maintain the necessary level of competencies, but also ensure the solution of the strategic tasks facing the Russian Federation in the Arctic.
