Determined the procedure for foreign ships entering the ports of the Far East and the Arctic

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that establishes the legal order for foreign tourist ships to enter the ports of the subjects of the Russian Federation belonging to the Arctic zone and the Far Eastern Federal District. According to the  document , a list of ports will be formed in which foreign tourist ships will be allowed to embark and disembark tourists for sightseeing, as well as to replenish food supplies.

The list of ports will be approved by the Government of the Russian Federation, and specific tourist routes will be coordinated by the Federal Agency for Tourism (Rosturizm) with cruise companies.

“The law will contribute to the development of tourism in the Far East and the Arctic. Adopted changes will expand the list of cruise routes and increase the flow of tourists. At the same time, important issues remain in the field of tourism in the Far East and the Arctic, among them international cooperation, the implementation of new investment projects, and the development of infrastructure. Prospects for the development of the tourism potential of these regions will be one of the themes of the business program of the V Eastern Economic Forum, ”said Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the Eastern Economic Forum.

In April 2019, within the framework of the International Arctic Forum “The Arctic - Territory of Dialogue”, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia instructed Rostourism to prepare a program for the development of cruise tourism in the Arctic.

“A very important issue of the development of the Arctic: we need to work closely with experts, environmentalists, the Ministry of Natural Resources to work out the right balance between effective development of tourism in the Arctic and not damage the ecology and the unique ecosystem of this region. Obviously, we need to increase interest in the Russian part of the Arctic and tourist flows in this direction, ”said Zarina Doguzova, head of the Federal Agency for Tourism.

Currently in the Far East there is a high growth rate of cruise tourism and an increase in tourist traffic. In particular, in 2019, at least 16 visits of cruise tourist liners to Vladivostok are expected. For example, on the days of the WEF, the newest Costa Venezia liner will moor in the city, where the guests of the Forum can be accommodated. It is assumed that a number of informal events will also take place on board the ship on the margins of the Vth Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held in Vladivostok from 4 to 6 September.
