Yuri Trutnev, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Eastern Economic Forum, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation - Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District, at a press conference summed up the preliminary results of the WEF-2019.

“More than 8.5 thousand people from 65 countries of the world worked at the Forum’s venues, including almost 1300 media representatives,” said Yuri Trutnev. According to him, the most numerous delegations were from countries such as Japan (588 people), China (395 people), the Republic of Korea (285 people), India (204 people). The delegations of Mongolia (69 people), the USA (65 people), Singapore (58 people), Vietnam (55 people), Great Britain (49 people), Malaysia (48 people) became representative. The Forum was attended by 440 companies at the chapter level.

Within the framework of the Forum program, more than 90 business events were held. The discussions went on in four blocks: “New solutions to accelerate economic growth”, “Creating conditions for business”, “Far East and Asia-Pacific region: developing opportunities for cooperation”, “New solutions to improve the quality of life”.

Six country business dialogues took place: with European countries, China, ASEAN countries, the Republic of India, the Republic of Korea, and Japan. A session of the Valdai International Discussion Club and other events were held. Within the framework of the forum, on September 4, under the chairmanship of the President of the Russian Federation, a meeting of the Presidium of the State Council on the national development program for the Far East for the period up to 2025 with a perspective until 2035 was held. The key event of the Forum was a plenary meeting with the participation of leaders of five countries: President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad and President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulgi.

The WEF-2019 hosted cultural and sports events. The main event of the sports program was the international judo tournament named after Jigoro Kano among young men and women under 18 under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe. A match between Russia and Japan sumo wrestlers took place as part of the Russian-Japanese sumo house, X Youth Sports Games of the Asia-Pacific Region, and sailing regatta in the Platu-25 class. A number of cultural events took place, including a charity auction in support of a project to protect endangered and rare species of animals in the Far East.

The preliminary results of the signed agreements are summed up. “As of the evening of September 6, 270 agreements were signed in the amount of about 3.5 trillion rubles. The final figure is still being drawn up. I note that this is again a step forward in relation to previous forums. The volume of agreements has increased, ”said Yuri Trutnev.

The most significant agreements were: the unification of the energy systems of the Magadan region with the Baimsky GOK, the TOR regime support for the creation of a clean complex for the production of methanol and ammonia at the Nakhodka Mineral Fertilizer Plant in the Primorsky Territory, the construction of the Ozerny GOK in the Republic of Buryatia, and the project of JSC NK NK Tuymaada-oil ”for geological exploration and industrial development of oil and gas sites in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The Russian Copper Company and the Far East Development Fund have concluded an agreement on the implementation of an investment project for the construction of a mining and processing complex at the Malmyzh deposit in the Khabarovsk Territory.

“All of the projects listed are in the tens, and a whole series in the hundreds of billions of rubles of investment,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

Special attention at the press conference was paid to holding a meeting of the Presidium of the State Council on the sidelines of the Forum on the National Development Program of the Far East for the period until 2025. “President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has been instructed to finalize it within 2.5 months taking into account the past discussions and submit it for approval,” said Yuri Trutnev. According to him, following a meeting of the Presidium of the State Council, a number of fundamental decisions were made, including the provision of mortgage loans at 2% per annum to participants in the Far Eastern Hectare program and young families, and a pilot program to change the forest management system in the Far Eastern Federal District was supported.

“We will strive to achieve better results. But at the same time, if you had asked me five years ago, before the first Eastern Economic Forum, what kind of obligations I would undertake before the fifth forum, I would not mention the figure of 1800 projects. Probably, I would have had enough determination to voice the number of projects in three hundred. I would think that is great. 1800 projects launched in the Far East - that's cool. There is something that I’m sure for sure: that the policy of economic preferences that is being implemented on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far East is effective, it will affect people's lives. The Far East will become better, more comfortable every year, there will be a higher level of economic development, more modern theaters, schools, museums, libraries, research centers, "summed up Yuri Trutnev.
