The Production System Of Vyksa Steel Works Is Recognized As The Best In The World Metallurgy

Vyksa Steel Works (JSC VMZ, Nizhny Novgorod Region, part of the United Metallurgical Company, OMK, Moscow), following the audit of Toyota Engineering Corporation (TEC, Japan), received the world's highest metallurgical assessment of the development of the production system ( PS). According to the auditor's classification, the maturity level of the VSW VS corresponds to the silver medal of Toyota Engineering Corporation.

The certificate and a silver medal confirming the assessment were handed to the managing director of JSC "VMZ" Alexander Barykov by TES President Toshihiro Yamada at the practical conference "Experience in the development of efficient production systems in Russia", held in Vyksa on December 5-6, 2017.

"According to our assessment, the maturity level of the production system of the Vyksa Steel Works exceeds the analogous indicator of not only the Japanese metallurgical enterprises, but the entire world metallurgical industry. This is the first enterprise in metallurgy, which achieved such impressive results, "said TEN President Toshihiro Yamada.

"The status of the most advanced enterprise in terms of developing a culture of production demonstrates that we are on the right track. VMZ is a constant participant of the largest international pipeline projects, it ensures high quality of products, which is confirmed by the trust of our customers from different industries. This means that the production system brings tangible results not only to the enterprise, but also to the economy of the region and the country as a whole, "said Alexander Barykov, managing director of Vyksa Steel Works.

"In modern conditions, the most important element of competitiveness is the competent organization of production. For us, such an element was the introduction and continuous improvement of the production system at all OMK enterprises. This allows us to be successful, work efficiently, competently manage the quality, costs and productivity of labor. Today's success is the result of the teamwork of thousands of people. I thank all the staff of VSW. This is certainly a great achievement that causes pride and serves as an incentive for further work, "OMK Chairman of the Board Natalia Yeremina commented on the receipt of the Vneshtorg Metallurgical Plant silver medal.

Estimates of VS Vyksa Toyota Engineering Corporation

In 2016, an audit of Toyota Engineering showed a high level of development of the production system. VMZ became the world's first metallurgical plant, marked with the bronze medal "Toyota Engineering" and proved the possibility of using the tools of the production system in such a complex industry as metallurgy.

Toyota's general production system was developed in the company from 1945 to 1975. This practice is known in Russia as "lean manufacturing". It is based on the principles of maximum loss reduction and continuous process improvement. OMK began development of the production system in 2011 at the Vyksa production site. The first audit of the application of the system was held at OMK's enterprises at the end of 2015.

The first in Russia conference on the exchange of experience in the development of the production system

On December 5 and 6, the Vyksa Steel Works is hosting a practical conference "Experience in developing efficient production systems in Russia". The organizers are the Vyksa Steel Works, Toyota Engineering Corporation (TES, Japan) and the Kaizen Center (Perm). The conference, taking place in Vyksa, Nizhny Novgorod region, is the first experience in Russia of generalizing and analyzing the work of Russian companies in implementing lean manufacturing. Representatives of more than 35 companies take part in the conference, including OMK partners - Russian Railways, Metalloinvest, NLMK Group and others.
