On 2 and 3 March 2017, at the site of the Eurasian Economic Commission, negotiations were held with the First Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of Iran Mojtaba Khosrovtaj and First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Islamic Republic of Iran Aliakbar Mehrfard on the issue of an interim agreement leading to the formation of a free trade zone, Between the Eurasian Economic Union and its member states, on the one hand, and Iran, on the other.
Veronica Nikishina, a member of the Eurasian Economic Commission (Trade) Board (Minister) for Trade, headed the negotiations on behalf of the Eurasian Economic Union . From the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, participation in these negotiations was received by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Georgy Kalamanov.
During the meetings, the Parties discussed the current work on the agreement, and also stressed the existence of agreements to reach an early agreement on compromises.
It is planned that an interim agreement on free trade with Iran will be concluded before the end of this year.
