Russia And Portugal Intend To Develop Cooperation In The Field Of Industry

On February 26, 2018, as part of his working visit to Portugal, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Georgy Kalamanov held talks with the Secretary of State for Trade of the Ministry of Economy of the Portuguese Republic, Paulo Alésandre Ferreira , as well as the State Secretary for Internationalization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Eurico Brilante Diash.

During the talks with the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy of Portugal, Giorgi Kalamanov noted with satisfaction that the volume of mutual trade, starting from 2016, shows an upward trend, and the share of machinery in 2017 accounted for 23% of all Portuguese export goods to the Russian Federation.

According to the results of 2017 (according to the Federal Customs Service of Russia), the Russian-Portuguese trade increased by 36.9%, compared to the same period in 2016, amounting to $ 1.4 billion,

said the Deputy Minister.

At the same time, Giorgi Kalamanov confirmed the readiness of the Russian side to expand cooperation in the field of industry and noted that there are certain prospects, including in the aircraft industry. Russian Be-200 amphibious aircraft were previously involved in firefighting in the territory of continental Portugal in mountainous regions and high temperatures, in which aircraft demonstrated high efficiency, primarily due to their maneuvering characteristics. The Deputy Minister assured that the Russian side is ready both for deepening cooperation in this area and for cooperation in the field of helicopter construction.

We are open to discuss various forms of cooperation, including the delivery of the new helicopter technology, taking into account various financing schemes, flight-training of technical personnel, the organization of the delivery of aviation equipment and documentation -

said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia.

Also, the parties discussed the approaches of the parties to the formation of a favorable investment climate. Paulo Ferreira announced successes in the field of innovation and start-ups development in Portugal and proposed to develop cooperation in the field of high technologies. For his part, Georgi Kalamanov noted a wide range of support tools for foreign investors, which is currently available in Russia.

During the talks with the Secretary of State for Internationalization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Euriko Dias , an extended presentation of the Russian application for the World Universal Exhibition EXPO-2025 in Yekaterinburg was held.

In May 2017, Russia officially became a contender for the Worldwide Universal Exhibition EXPO 2025. Yekaterinburg was chosen as the candidate from the Russian Federation.
