The Second Meeting Of The Ministers Of Industry Of The BRICS Countries Was Held In Hangzhou

 During the events from 28 to 29 July, representatives of the BRICS countries discussed the issues of industrial and trade-investment cooperation, the rapprochement of the economies of the Five countries and the launch of new projects. The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Georgy Kalamanov.

The participants of the meeting noted the special importance of further consolidation of the efforts of the countries of the Association in the era of Industry 4.0, which is both an opportunity and a challenge for the development of the industry of the Five countries and the strengthening of the role of BRICS in the international arena.

Our countries have already established close relations in the field of international, economic, technological, industrial and scientific-technical cooperation. Perspective platforms for the development of investment and trade-industrial cooperation are being implemented, -

The head of the Russian delegation stressed the need to pay attention to the multilateral format of cooperation, including the implementation of cross-platform projects involving the financing of the New Development Bank (BRBK) of BRICS. He recalled that the bank has already approved the first project in the territory of the Russian Federation - the construction of Nord-Hydro JSC - small hydroelectric power stations in Karelia with a design capacity of 50 MW for a total of $ 100 million.

"Already today we are actively working on launching the so-called" network for the exchange of industrial technologies "for the BRICS countries. In particular, by the end of 2017 it is planned to develop comprehensive proposals for the branches of the Technological Platform of the Industrial Innovation Club: "Small-scale energy development and renewable resources projects" and "Industrial waste management" within the Year of Ecology in Russia, "the deputy minister said. He also expressed confidence that "an additional impulse to strengthen the interaction of the BRICS countries in the era of Industry 4.0 will give the creation of cross-platform projects in the format" Eureka - "BRICS - UNIDO". It was observed,

Special attention was paid to the initiative of the Russian side to synchronize the Second Global Summit of Production and Industrialization and the 10th International Exhibition INNOPROM-2019 within the framework of the idea of ​​working in a multilateral format. In a personal interview with George Kalamanov, UNIDO Director-General Li Yong expressed his readiness to support this initiative.

The participants of the meeting took interest in the proposal of the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation to strengthen the strategic partnership of the BRICS countries, including the implementation of high-tech projects. "Russia already has experience of successful cooperation in a bilateral format with all the countries of the association. We can make a very serious competition to the leading developed countries if we jointly develop our competencies in the most high-tech sectors, "the Deputy Minister said. According to him, at this stage of interaction within the Union, it is expedient to work out the issue of setting up a Working Group on the BRICS Industry.

At the end of the meeting, Giorgi Kalamanov expressed his confidence that modernization of the industry would allow the multilateral cooperation of the BRICS countries in the sphere of high-tech production of industrial products to be taken to a new level.

Following the meeting of the Ministers of Industry of the BRICS countries, the Action Plan on deepening industrial cooperation among the BRICS countries was signed. The main areas of work of the countries of the Association are recognized, including:

  • Strengthening the industrial cooperation of the Five;
  • Conjugation of industrial policies of the BRICS countries;
  • Expansion of cooperation in the sphere of high technologies and innovations;
  • Deepening cooperation in the field of SME support;
  • Strengthening of cooperation in the field of standardization;
