In The Urals, Developing the Russian Production Of Batteries Of The Future

Ural metrologists have certified the measurement procedure for the development of domestic production of double electric layer capacitors (CDEC) - theso-called "supercapacitors" or "ionistors". In Russia, developments in this area are, in particular, carried out by Elekond OJSC (Sarapul, Udmurtia). Due to its characteristics, KDES can soon partially replace conventional batteries.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Alexei Besprozvannykh said that the specialists of the Ural Research Institute of Metrology (UNIIM) of Rosstandart confirmed the correctness of the new methodology: it allowed the Udmurt company to obtain reliable measurement results when assessing the quality of products.

KDES is a comparatively new type of electric capacitors, which are characterized by a very high electric capacity (from units to thousands of farads) with very compact sizes. As a result, the energy reserve of the KDES is higher compared to conventional capacitors of the same size. A typical “supercapacitor” capacity is a few farads at a nominal voltage of 2 to 10 volts. It is not surprising that such energy storage devices are used as backup power sources, compact starting devices

- remarked the deputy minister.

The developers are actively searching for new porous materials with an even larger number of tiny pores, which, in combination with an electrolyte, will make it possible to store and retain more electric charge. The main tasks in this case are minimization of the CDEC in size and increasing the ability of the device to withstand a large number of charge - discharge cycles . In the future, the Ural metrologists plan to continue work aimed at improving the metrological support of measurements and control of the parameters of KDES.
